A Special Night As Men's Soccer Tops # 22 NYIT, 2-1

Bridgeport, CT - It was a special night for the Purple Knights men's soccer team on Saturday, as UB celebrated senior night in style with a big 2-1 East Coast Conference win over number 22 ranked New York Tech in the first night match ever played on the University of Bridgeport's campus. The game-winning goal was scored by graduate student Blaise Njie (Banjul, Gambia) with just under 15 minutes to play, when he put home his eighth goal of the season from the center of the box off an assist from junior Habib Sylla (Conakry, Guinea).

With the win, Bridgeport is now 9-3-4 overall, and more importantly, 5-1-2 in conference play. NYIT falls to 12-3-0 overall and 5-2-0 in the ECC. The Purple Knights grabbed a 1-0 lead at the 27:37 mark in the match when sophomore Gilbert Bayonne (Amityville, NY) put home his own rebound following a nice feed from Njie.

NYIT tied the contest at 1-1 with just over 20 minutes to play when Richard Ingram hammered home a goal off a rebound of a shot by Kyle Cupid that banged off the post.

Freshman goalkeeper Milos Suljagic (Belgrade, Serbia) picked up his second consecutive win for UB.

Bridgeport will finish off the regular season next Wednesday evening with a 6:00 p.m. match at Molloy. With a win in that match, the Purple Knights can finish the regular season no worse than in second place in the conference standings and will host a first round ECC Tournament match.

Saturday's match was final regular season home game for four members of the Bridgeport men's soccer team, Bogdan Bracea (Bridgeport, CT), Randy Jean-Baptiste (Brentwood, NY), Paulo Goncalves (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) and Blaise Njie (Banjul, Gambia).
